The Abyss is the blank space between the people who promised that you would be safe and loved no matter what, and the emptiness you found yourself staring into after you came out. The abyss is staring out at the dark sky at 3 am from a cold apartment, finding yourself alone after finally having the courage to be truthful about who you are and how you move through the world. The Abyss is the dark moments before it gets better and community reforms (and my god does it get better).

I have been getting intimately familiar with the idea of rejection
and all the different little, fucked up forms it comes in
Sometimes it tastes like cold November rain
walking down the side streets where everything looks gray
It smells like some drunk asshole, pissing in the alleyway-
and the realization that queerness is just real fucking lonely

I am afraid
to reach out and touch
to hold my friends and feel with them
They will turn to ash

at any given moment the floor beneath me will give way
and I will drift into the dark abyss
